My first Garbage is a snarky critique to the idea that we as a society are taught to pollute since childhood. A lesson promoted from the amalgamation of capitalism and consumerism and underpinned by the world’s material economy.

The packaged toy-like design comes from a scenario I observed while driving through an affluent neighborhood in Miami, Florida. A young boy was walking along while playing with a ball of Styrofoam by shredding it with his hands. The flurry of white micro trash that was cascading behind him was devastatingly beautiful and looked like a winter scene in the sub-tropic landscape of South Florida.

I am upset at the alarming rate companies produce and promote objects. They inundate us and confuse our understanding of essentials versus luxuries. They push their manufactured goods so far beyond the tipping point of too much that it disarms us. Their goods become natural and their intentions invisible. Companies package their goods in attractive but unwanted containers that we discard immediately. The practice of throwing out these containers removes our attachment to objects and grooms us to become proficient at discarding anything.
